A LIONS TALE _ December 2015

LIONS - We Serve

LIONS – We Serve

If you wonder what the Lions Club is, and what we do, then let me explain:
We are an eclectic set of altruistic volunteers, who spend our time for no financial reward to help the immediate community and the wider scope of humanity to be a better place. See the list below.
In December, we would have by now provided a few sponsorships of event meals to a few of the town’s groups, contributed to Christmas hampers, administered by the Combined Churches (bless ’em!), we will be giving support to Swaggies on Sat 12th, which looks like a particularly excellent entertainment event this year. Then the following evening, Sun 13th, join us at the Carols under the Big Tree, Samsonvale. This is a typically country laid-back affair to catch up with friends and try a bit of singing! Next week we will be helping Santa by providing and packing lolly bags, for the jolly fellow to hand out to kiddies as he patrols the streets of Dayboro in Ken’s police car on Christmas eve.
Movies: Inside Out attracted a good audience in November, which is a most pleasing final for 2015. This included a group of Cub-scouts and Joeys who were having a den sleepover on that steamy tropical evening.
There is no movie in December, due to the mass of other community events on offer.
Our first movie for 2016 will be a good Aussie animated film: Blinky Bill…the movie. It will screen on 16th January. Check the ads around town, in particular the Police notice board. See you there!
We also sponsored a trial entertainment event, a professional performance called “the Great War”. Whilst we expected a much greater audience, the afternoon went extremely well, and the audience was overwhelmed with the excellent presentation. All gate takings, and canteen/bar profits are donated to legacy.
Among the other events that have kept us busy, is Light up Dayboro 2015. We have encouraged local main street businesses to decorate their premises for December, with the incentive of prizes, including advertising space in our 2017 Business Directory and the Dayboro Grapevine during 2016.
