DAYBOROS VICTORIAN FIRE FUND

Dayboro poet, Russell Plunkett, has penned an emotive poem in the wake of the terrible bushfires that resulted in the loss of so many lives in Victoria during February 2009 – the most notable incidents occurring on February 9 – “Black Saturday”.
(See poster here: http://www.dayborograpevine.com.au/index.php/DAYBOROS-VICTORIAN-FIRE-FUND/THE-GLIMPSE-OF-HELL.html )
As a fundraising endeavour, Russell has organised for his poem to be made into a 20 by 30 inch poster.  This stunning poster features the poem, The Glimpse of Hell, printed over a stunning fiery background image provided by Fiona Harding and is available for you to purchase.  The profits from the sales will be sent to the Red Cross’s appeal.
Back in 1983, Russell, then a Victorian resident, was touched by the plight of communities following the Ash Wednesday bushfires.  He decided to target one community to assist and, to that end, penned a poem “In Memory of Cockatoo”.  Sales of this poem, on plain paper, assisted in the construction of a multi-denomination church in Cockatoo.
This time the plain paper is replaced by archival quality photo paper to become a stunning piece of artwork.  But let’s not forget the cause – the whole reason behind the project – to raise funds to help these communities to re-build.
Marysville comes prominently to mind – all but 2 buildings gone!  With its close proximity to a major city and its day tripper tourism attractiveness, it is not dissimilar to our own Dayboro community.  Let us help them to start over.
So dig deep Dayboro and support this endeavour.  Your $50 (plus $4.50 postage) will see $32.50 going to the Red Cross’s Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund.
